my husband went home last nite bcoz he had a meeting downtown.

he left early this morning, however, since it's weekend, he'll be back in the evening.

he asked, "do you want a rose?"

i said, "no... no need at all."

he said, "i'll buy if i see and if i remember."

and we laughed together. lol ... !

toilet in 5-star hotel

again .. i'm so suaku

i saw this toilet while attending a training at a 5 star hotel in Guangzhou last Nov-2008.

yes.. it's sophisticated but not environmental friendly

here is another picture, sticked beside every elevator door at a 4-star hotel in Chao-an (a district in Guangdong province)... as always happens in china .. mis-spelling of english wordings.

plastic bags ... NOT FOR FREE

Starting 1-June-2008, all supermarkets, department stores and shops in China will not provide plastic bags for free. Price of plastic shopping bags should be clearly marked. Production, sales and use of ultra-thin plastic bags (thickness less than 0.025mm) are also to be banned.

Consumers are encouraged to use baskets, cloth bags or reuse old plastic bags to reduce environmental pollution.

In China, free plastic bags were first introduced in the 1980s in Guangdong province. Since then, decades of free bags have instilled a mentality of 'better more than fewer'; encouraged a use-and-discard habit.

Although this new regulation may cause inconvenience to people's daily lives in short term, it will greatly promote benefits to the environment in coming years.

Some supermarkets have already started to make cloth shopping bags or offer cardboard boxes.


In view of constructing an eco-friendly society, we need to examine our life and habit; improve it to get more closer to the green lifestyle.


things you could do in your daily life:
- bring basket, cloth bag, paper bag or reuse old plastic bag when go shopping
- if you don't bring, ask for cardboard box from the shop
- refuse plastic bag given to you when buying small item, put directly into your handbag.
- avoid buying items that are packed with excessive plastic packaging
- if possible, bring some food/drink container when buying some food outside
- any other suggestions?



some facts:
- it takes more than 200 years for plastic bags to dissolve in the natural environment.
- Chinese people use up to 3 billion plastic bags a day.
- China has to refine 5 million tons (37 million barrels) of crude oil every year to make packaging plastics (www.chinatradenews.com.cn).
- in China, each person produces an average of 264kg of rubbish every year, nearly 1m tonnes a day
- some consumer goods are packed with excessive plastic packaging, e.g. eggs are packed with 3 layers packaging plastic, etc.
- in China, many street-food-sellers wrap bowl/plate with ultra thin plastic bag before serving, saving time to wash the dishes; increases plastic garbages in the cities.

PERNAH membayangkan sebuah sekolah bermurid 750 orang memiliki 50 toilet? Kalau dihitung-hitung, mungkin jumlah toiletnya menjadi lebih banyak dibandingkan jumlah ruang kelasnya. Tapi ini nyata, ada di SMAN 10 Malang, Jawa Timur. Apa yang ada di benak sang pengelola sekolah dengan toilet sebanyak itu? Niken Asih Santjojo, Kepala SMA tersebut punya jawabnya.

"Dengan jumlah toliet yang banyak itu, asumsinya satu toilet akan dipakai lebih sedikit siswa sehingga kebersihannya akan lebih terjaga." Wanita yang sudah mengabdi sebagai guru selama 30 tahun ini melanjutkan, di sekolahnya yang seluas 10.111 meter persegi, juga ditanam 20 pohon jati dan 75 pohon mangga.

"Seneng saja melihat banyak pepohonan, suasana sejuk, hati guru yang mengajar maupun anak-anak yang belajar juga sejuk. Kami juga membuat alat pencacah sampah, yang kemudian diolah, dijual, dan akhirnya anak-anak menjadi wiraswasta. Selain itu, disekolah juga ada budidaya jamur tiram, dimana siswa dibantu pembantu sekolah mengolahnya menjadi camilan sehingga bisa dipasarkan."

Motto Niken, useless becoming usefull. Tak heran, setelah 3 tahun memimpin, pada tahun 2008 ini SMAN 10 Malang mendapat peringkat 1 se-Jawa Timur untuk kategori Lingkungan Sekolah Sehat. Dengan lingkungan sekolah yang sehat, ia percaya bahwa siswa siswi SMA yang memasuki masa transisi akan lebih tenang jiwanya. Jiwa yang tenang akan membuat siswa tidak mudah marah dan terpancing emosinya. Efeknya, proses belajar mengajar berjalan baik, dan pasti akan berimbas ke prestasi siswa juga.

Saat ini, Niken mengaku tengah mengajak seluruh elemen sekolahnya untuk tidak membawa kendaraan bermotor ke sekolah. Aksi ini dilakukan sebagai bentuk kepedulian terhadap ancaman global warming. Masalahnya, ada hal unik yang diungkapkan siswanya. Ada beberapa anak yang bilang, saya tahu bu bahaya global warming, saya mau kok nggak naik motor ke sekolah. Tapi si anak itu bilang, kalau motornya ditinggal di rumah, rawan dicuri. Saya jadi serba salah juga. Ini yang sedang saya pikirkan bagaimana solusinya.

Hmm, bagaimana kalau motornya dijual dan dibelikan sepeda, Bu?
